Because it allows you to shoot a .30 caliber round out of an AR platform with just having to change the barrel. With 7.62x39 you need to change the bolt/barrel/magazines. Same with 6.8SPC. Im getting bored with 5.56, so i wanted to build something with more power. Also its pretty sweet when suppressed.

What are some good open sights that aren't gonna break the bank? Granted it hard to tell without sights, but with the flat top, it seems like this thing will/would be awkward to shoot with open sights. Shooting an A2 with open sights and a carry handle on top, it shouldered and felt like it was born there looking through the sights. Where it feels at home on my shoulder, I can't get my head where my eye feels like it will be lined up with open sights. If I get my head/eye where they feel right, it feels wrong on my shoulder.
Iron sights? As asked earlier, fixed or folding?
I like the Troy folding battle sight or the KAC 2-600M. The latter is a more precise sight. I have both and like both.
I've got an NC*STAR flip up rear sight, works perfectly with my red dot or without (co-witnessing). It was pretty cheap. If you plan on running any sort of non-magnified optic, a flip up rear sight and fixed front sight are great. If I was going to war, no, I wouldn't trust an NC*STAR sight, but for trips to the range my cheap optics are doing just fine.
Just for -stew-... The continued 300 Blackout boner...
