Little sun burned here! great time though, the 2nd round of elims really got fast, some top fuelers threw down some 4.49's nothing over 330 for mph... little too warm for that. The pits were great as usual, prolly breathed more than a safe amount of nitro fumes as i like to stand right behind the pipes when they run them in the pits.
One funny car did blow a motor up hardcore! there was piece of parts and fire, chunks of hte body blew off.
Then another lost its steering and right at the 1/8 mile hooked left, blew up the 1/8th time marker, and narowly smacked the other car by 3-4 feet and grazed the wall pretty hard.

Did you happen to go in the pits and watch the crew work on the cars and start them up and barely be able to breath the nitro when they run them in the pits? thats what i loved. I use to go to brainerd MN with my parents back in the day. It was a blast.

that buring feeling is the best part. One minute its all fine, smells good, the next minute you cant breath and it looks like your crying. Nothin in the world like it. i miss going to those races.

I went on Sunday and had a good time. We were back in the pits and looking for cars to start up or ones assembling engine internals. We came across one that was putting a full set of 8 pistons and (aluminum) rods in! It was the Brut funny car of Ron Capps. He was walking around and signed a few things. There was hardly anyone watching (maybe 4 other people). His crew looked like one of the most organized I've seen, it was like a carefully scripted ballet or something. They got the engine together in 44 minutes and started it up and breathed a (un)healthy dose of nitro!
Once we got back to the stands, we were naturally drawn to rooting for the team we just watched rebuild their engine, turns out he did good, next round won again, ended up WINNING the event!!! I Guess I should have got his autograph when I had the chance.
One weird thing I noticed was, when the Brut funny car did it's burnout, I thought someone walked behind me or something cause I smelled something. Next time I saw the car I swear to god I smelled cologne or something again. Next time the car came out I told Heidi to watch and see if she smells anything when he does the burnout. Sure shlt!!! I had no idea how they did it, but every time the Brut funny car did a burnout, you could smell Brut cologne up in the stands. Seriously. When I got home I researched and found the answer. They put Brut cologne on the headers before they leave the pits, and it must blast the smell way up into the crowds! Pretty cool, eh?
