    Monte SS rear end question

I recently bought a 10 bolt posi out of a Monte SS, but I've got a couple of questions for you SS guys. Were all SS's 10 bolt? Were all of them a 3.73? What size was the ring gear? 7.5 or 8.5? Did I pay too much? $500. Thanks guys!

You should already have a 8.5 in your 84 hurst, why the new rear?
As far as monte's IIRC the 2004R ones had 3.73's and the 3 speeds had 3.42's. I believe the split is 84 & down and 85 & up.
Whether you paid too much? Well I personally wouldn't pay that for a 7.5 or 7.625 whichever the monte rear is but I don't know what the market is on those.
    I bought my whole 442 with a nonposi 8.5 for $400 then I put a 455 in it.

yeah, it already has an 8.5, but not a posi. My thinking was that the Monte SS's had 8 bolt rear ends with a 7.5 ring gear, so when I was told it was a 10 bolt posi, I automatically assumed that the guy was wrong, and it actually came out of a GN, Hurst, or 442. In that case, I'm gonna need a speedometer gear for the tranny, anyone know where I can get one?

For $500 you could probably put a posi in your 8.5.
You'll also need a 1" longer driveshaft to put in the 7.5
If you got the monte one with 3.73 you won't need to changed speedo gear since your 84 rear already has 3.73's

I woulda just put the money into the 8.5 then you'd have a much better rear.

$500 for a posi MCSS rear is a bit high I'm afraid to say . I see them go for $250-300 regularly. It is a 10 bolt but only a 7.5".....I would consider selling it and putting the money into the 8.5" as well, depening on how strong your motor is and what your plans are. If its going to stay mild, a 7.5" should be ok.

Damn, sounds like I got screwed. Anybody know who has a good posi for the 8.5 (besides a factory unit)? MONTE SS POSI FOR SALE - $500 (jk)
