how big is your rubber?

i was wondering if anyone out there with a third gen would happen to know the largest rubber that can be fit on stock rims? i have the 16'' iroc rims on my 87 camaro, but im not sure if they are 16x7? 16x8? or 16x9 even. i heard somewhere that the biggest you could go on the stock rims is 275..... is that true?

Do a search on Thirdgen.org I looked it up on there awhile ago and I think your right about 275s being the biggest you can go. I think there were a few people running bigger but they looked like they were about to blow off the rims, just didnt look right.

stock iroc rims should be 16x8.

the most tire you really should run i think is 255, but i DID fit a 275 on my 15x8 Pro Star.

But in answer to the general question of how big my rubber is : 325/50/15 & 28x11.5x15

good luck finding any street tires that are wider than 255 for a 16" rim. I looked around for a while. You can find autocross rubber in a 275 50 16 but I have yet to see any real street rubber. I finally just upgraded to some 17" ronal r15s.

well, right now, im looking for some drag radials for the rear. so im not sure if that matters when talking about whats the biggest size you can fit on the rims. id love to get some nice 17x8 or 17x9's, but then your talking about spending a lot of money, which is something none of us have a lot of. let me know what you guys think, and your opinions about brands and what not. thanx again for all the input.

I've got nitto 245 50 16 drag radials on set of spare iroc rims. I've only got a chance to make 2 passes on them so far though. Now that my new rear end will be on the car when I go back to the track, I kind of wish I would have gotten et streets.

Daily driver tire = nitto drag radial

you might suffer a BIT at the track, but longevity and street hook are very good and atleast you COULD drive them in the rain(carefully)

Weekend warrior/lots of track = BFG drag radial

they don't last as long, but if you are looking for a really good radial for hooking at the track, go with the BFG(or you could try the new mickey thompson e.t. street radial)

spare set of rims = M/T E.T. street bias play tire

great hook at the track, just sucks on the street if you get caught in the rain and they get torn up on the street.(you could also try the Hoosier QTP, Tom and I have had great success with them at the track)

That's a pretty general overview. All depends on what you are looking to do and how much driving you'll do on them
