Talking Oh no, not again! Poor buick guys...

Well, the 2004 "Pure Stock" (not factory appearing) Muscle Car Drag Races were held at teh Mid michingan motorplex and the results were telling:

    1. Jeff Peterson, 63 plymouth fury, 426 Wedge(415hp), 12.05/116.76
    2. Peter Simpson, 69 Chevy COPO Camaro, 427 (430hp), 12.09/116.09
    3. Randy Rigatti, 66 Dodge Coronet, 426 Hemi (425hp), 12.118/113.65
    4. Bob Karakashain, 69 Super Bee, 440 6bbl (390hp), 12.33/112.05
    5. Rob Clary, 69 Chevy Yenko Camaro, 427 (425hp), 12.36/113.60
    6. Jim Spetzman, 69 Dodge Superbee, 440 6bbl (390hp), 12.38/111.39
    7. Tony Goodman, 68 Pontiac Firebird, 400 (340hp), 12.47/111.57
    8. Tim Clary, 70 Chevy Chevelle SS, 454 (450hp), 12.48/113.15
    9. Tracy Doyle, 70 Challenger RT, 440 6bbl (390hp), 12.49/111.30
    10. Paul Petcou, 69 Dodge Superbee, 440 6bbl (390hp), 12.50/112.17

6 mopars, 3 chevys and a pontiac....and yet not one buick in the top ten

Okay, okay...sorry, had to do it because of the "other" thread in this forum

The fastest buick (12th) would have belonged to David Hemker, driving a 1970 GS 455 (360hp), running a 12.63/108mph

    The fastest olds (13th) was right behind belonging too Darrel Detwiler with a 70 Olds 442 w-30, 455 (370hp) running a 12.69/110mph

Fastest ford (14th) was Tom Artes 69 Ford Mustang SCJ, 428 (330hp) at 12.78/109mph

For those that don't know, "Pure Stock" Muscle car drags is similar to "FAST" except it is more exacting. Used to be they all competed as one and under the same rules...but when accusations of cheating was bandied about, the "pure stock" guys started to offer tear-downs and certifications....so now you can certify your cars to the rules after a tear down and the motor is "sealed" so that you can't change a critical component without there being some evidence of doing so...therefore requiring it to be recertified. The caveat is that the certification is optional, yet most of the fastest guys are in fact certified.

Bassically, the cars have to be stock displacement, stock compression, stock unported heads, stock manifolds with NO extrude honing allowed, stock-APPEARING ignition, stock carb with stock venturris and blade sizes, stock lift camshafts with stock rocker arms.

EVERYWHERE else with the exception of the exhaust, has to look stock. For exhaust, you are allowed 2.5 inch pipe in the stock location/routing with an x-pipe. Everything else such as battery, radiator, suspension, etc remains basically as it came from the factory.

    Hemker's car is a 4200lbs 4-speed Conv.......

I believe Detwiler's Olds has been 12.30-40s, not sure what happened to him..

I remember 6-Pack Bob K's Super Bee running 12.30s 10 years ago in the NMCA races.....Super nice, seriously fast Pure Stocker.....

Whats funny about the top 10 is they're all multi carbed or aluminum motored cars except for one, Who stuck that Quadrajet powered, Iron Intake'd Pontiac in there.......

What would have been interesting to look for, was did that firebird run with the factory stock throttle stop left on there?

(for those that didn't know... early firebirds with the 400's did, in fact, use a throttle stop on their cars. Generally, one of the first things to go too, if not already removed by the dealers)

Is he driving a different car at the pure stocks now? He's listed in the results as having a race weight of 3689, and using a 3 speed auto. I am familiar with his silver GS455 convertible and am confused with what the results are saying

He could be driving a different car?..... I know his conv ran 12.60s like a bracket car.......

3700 lbs is awfully light for a GS, even with out the driver, I don't know how good there info is.....

    Here's a list:

This one doesn't list auto or stick as the one from musclecar enthusiast did...I tried scanning the buick site to see if any mention was made to see if dave did in fact make a change of cars with no luck...may you could ask and get the inside scoop from the man himself?
