    Electrical Help?

So my wife tells me that while she was vacuuming she heard a pop, and the dining room ceiling fan was no longer lit.
    I disconnected the switch (this one:http://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-B...Q&gclsrc=aw.ds )

So hardwiring the power feed and the fan together, the pull chain operates the light, but not the fan. I'm guessing the transmitter is smoked, but am not sure if the receiver is too.

Has anyone worked with these switches before? This came with the house so I'm not exactly familiar with em.

Does the fan have 2 pull chains or just one? it may only be able to operate the lights manually.

2 pull chains, the fan control chain may or may not be disabled in favor of the electronic switch control (which is no longer working) though... someone who put one of these might know how they actually install? I searched online and couldn't find any detail on how the receiver is wired in.

Also after grilling my wife some more, she thinks the "pop" she heard came from the fan, so I'm suspicious its actually the receiver that blew. In which case I'll probably just replace the entire dated fan since its the only "antique brass" thing in the house we haven't replaced with stainless already.

Said to hell with it. replaced everything. Assuming it still works, the old fan is going in my bedroom, getting 2 conductor wiring so I don't have any use for the controller.

Yea those switches are crap. Most likely your issue, but hearing the pop makes me think it could possibly be something else.

    Hope it works out.

Old fan is now installed and functional in the bedroom.

Bedroom is running a dual circuit, I bought a new electronic control for the dining room, and the new fan came with a remote control too, so I've got a backup if this one shits the bed.
