You should se my RC planes drift around. Kick the rudder to one side and hold the wings level so the plane will fly at about 70 degrees from straight and I still have control. If a planes engine is strong enough and the rudder is big enough, you can do a 180 and fly backwards till the thrust slows you down. There is even a guy who changes the pitch of his prop and can continuosly flay backwards. Same concept but rolled 90 deg is a knife-edge.

Yes it depends. The poor guys just use pcv pipe (usually the grey kind cuz it looks cool) or theres r/c brands that make tires that are part rubber and part platic. Theres like little plastic rings in the tread pattern.
