End of day 2, fiance with the flu slowed me down a bit so I haven't started on the living room yet. I have to get the living room done in order to continue to the front entry (behind me in the 2nd pic), so it is just as well that I have the house to myself tomorrow to uproot the whole living room and try to figure out where the heck to go with all the damn furniture.

Went to install the vanity, and discovered that due to the 1/2" of added height the plumbing doesn't work anymore, so I decided to do the reasonable thing... replace the whole vanity.

Left the side cover off the dishwasher for 2 reasons. 1) I want to run it once with the cover off just in case and 2) I don't want to trim it down as it requires I break out the radial arm saw.

End of day 3, about 500 square feet down, 155 to go. Plus a little trimming out. I hope to be done tomorrow.

    New Flooring Project

What are you gonna do now that the wood floor is such a color difference than all the trim, doors, and cabinets?

I think it actually looks good with a little contrast between the floor and the trim. Doing a dark floor makes the whole place look smaller and more cave like.

How did you handle around the doors? Did you cut the jambs so you could get the floor under them or did you just go around them? I'm assuming for the trim your just doing the 1/4 round to cover the gap between the floor and the trim board?

I did the 1100 sq ft lower of my duplex about 2 years ago now. I used the cheap stuff from menards and even at that it turned out really well.

Glueless floating laminate. Its trafficmaster from Home Depot. Got it for a smoking deal.

I've got real hardwood in the back of the house that is close to the same color, and have no problem with how it looks, so, nothing.

I pulled all the trim I could. because of the way the flooring installs I couldn't get under the frames even if I did trim them, so I got as close as I could. My goal was only to do better than my dad did, and seeing as he pulled NO trim when he did his that wasn't difficult. A discerning eye will be able to see this was DIY as opposed to professional. I'm hoping to pick up a silicone caulk that closely matches to make it a little less noticeable in some areas.

Didn't feel like making a new thread, so i'll piggyback this one.. did some more updating in the kitchen.

    Countertop refinishing kit (Rustoleum)

    Close-up:

And added some cabinets/countertop on the back side of the room (both the short cabs were free from my aunt):

Total cost was about $360 + a weekends worth of work.

That flooring looks really good. At a glance i thought you dropped big money on granite counter.

looks good but the cabinet is on the wrong side of the fridge. I know this because I have the same problem.
