Dual 3" stainless mandrel bent exhaust by Clocks Off Racecars

Big thanks to Ron for busting out a fully custom exhaust system for my RX-7.

-Dual 3" all the way back
-16 gauge (.065) 304 Stainless Steel mandrel bent tubing
-Stainless V-band flanges at headers and at "catback"
    -Magnaflow X-pipe mid-muffer
    -Dual Magnaflow rear mufflers
    -fully TIG welded

Magnaflow 5in.x8in. (Part #12469) is a Tru-X Perforated Core, despite what Magnaflows website says, so it served as my X-Pipe.

Had to offset the V-Band clamps so you could get them on side by side

Where we left off Friday night. (Finished up Monday)

Still need to hang these two mufflers and figure out tail pipes.

Sound clip of just the mid-muffler. Engine is still un-tuned, so I can't rev it much past 2000 RPM... if that.

Car idles real funny now with full exhaust. I'm scheduled for a dyno tune next week. I won't bother with an exhaust sound clip of the full exhaust till it's tuned. I cant really rev it right now.

Hanger: stainless bracket to a rubber biscuit.

Ron does great work. I would've went with a Burns Stainless mufflers it doesn't look right with those style mufflers mounted like that but that's my opinion.

Bullet style mufflers are too loud. I was trying to do something different with the space available.

I will be the dissenting voice and say I love the dual muffler look. Nice car, and beautiful exhaust.

Sounded badass with open headers! Even though it's not done, the car moving under its own power has to feel good!

    Hey Andy,

Could you PM me an approximate cost of your exhaust?
I need to do something with my exhaust and I'm not sure if I want to tackle it myself or just pull the trigger and have it built by someone.
I have all the tools to do it just not the experience.

The mufflers are not that bad looking at them again. I wonder if someone makes a 2 in and 2 out oval muffler. It's different and sounds great and really that's all that matters.
You should def get the exhaust coated so they look good for a long time. I know their SS but I've had SS exhaust on my Supra that looked crappy after a few years, especially at the welds. Sound Performance has a place that coats all of their stuff and its super durable stuff and you can get it in a high-luster silver or satin black. Here's the silver.

I wonder what that powder coat is and if it's available to the consumer.

    It's purty!

I thought you could just take some steel wool to stainless and brighten it right back up. I did that to my SLP catback exhaust along time ago.

Steel wool or a scotch pad do work to an extent its the welds that get ya. I was just giving you an option if you want it to look better than just good. I've had different coatings on exhaust and that coating I sent you the link for is by far the best stuff I've had. Even on the exhaust housing on turbos this coating holds up for a long time and like Irish said " It's purdy". LOL.

How the welds hold up will be linked to the filler rod/wire used while welding. Ferritic stainless will scale and non ferritic won't. If everything was 300 series scotchbright should be enough to keep it looking good a long time

I used Flitz or Bon-Ami with a steel wool pad on my polished SS exhaust (not my current car) and it cleaned the welds nice also.
