96S10 what brakes are you running?

Hey Nan I am wondering what brakes you are running for Road America? Last year I ran fresh stock 10.5" brakes with Performance Friction "Z-Rated" street pads and the brakes were warped, melted, and smoldering (two sets). So this year I am looking at the Baer 12" kit, what are you running?

    JOSH,
    just like i tell everyone...

THE PADS are all ya need.
Get Real Race Pads for the Front, like HAWK BLUE 9012, or better(higher temp rating).
you need a pad rated for 1,200 degrees, or better.

YES, larger diameter rotors will help, BUT,
the PAD will still overheat & melt & Gas,
    significantly reducing the Friction,
causing an OFF at least, or Crash at worse.

    you need RACE PADS

Nan, (96s10), has purcahsed Hawk Blue Pads, for RA this october!

    AND!
HAVE FRESH NEW BRAKE FLUID IN THE FRONT SYSTEM,
i flush the whole brake system, right before RA.

    Go to any FORD Dealer,
and buy the Plain Old , FORD DOT3 , brake fluid they have on the shelf,

it has a 550 degree dry boiling point.

very good for $4 a bottle.

    thats all i use.

That's what I did last year, flushed everything, I run Motul RBF600, I feel it's the 2nd best option only to the unbeleivably expensive Castrol SRF.

Hey josh!!!!!!!! Mike is totaly right! I looked at all the Baer kits, which look awsome btw. But I just went with a set of hawk Blue pads for the front and a set of slotted rotors. I'm also going to have 98 camaro rear discs, but who knows who much that will help.

You really will be amazed at how much of a difference REAL race pads make!

PS if you do get a big brake kit I would love to come help ya put it on

    YES
alot of people use Motul 600
but you dont need to spend 5 times as much
cause the FORD DOT 3 stuff is just as good dry.

who needs the wet boiling point
if ya keep the stuff fresh?

    Josh,
Nan is coming home from korea
    'for the month of october.
Will ya stop over sometime & visit.
    we live in south milwaukee.

Hey josh I looked up a 1991 GMC Syclone on the hawk pads application site. Your truck uses the same brakes as mine!!!!!

Hawk Part no. HB 119 I bought my pads from pegausas racing! They are local and have good prices!

    http://hawkperformance.com/motorSports.cfm

    theres the application chart

What compound is the HB119? Is that a race only compound? Will it eat my rotors? Someone on speedseekers.com Forum warned a certain brake pad (Hawk Blue?) will ruin your wheels and the dust will marr your vehicle's paint, I want to stay away from those, I'll have to check which it was..

Josh HB 119 is the pad P/N then when you order from places you tell them which compound you want.

SSmike1 has been running hawk blues for almost 2 years now. And he races ALOT His car still looks MINT along with his ZR1's and Black 10 spokes. I don't know what to tell ya but the blues really are the only way to go. You get AWSOME bite and NO fading.

    HB119
is the PAD Size for your S10.
that HB119 will come in different compounds.

I recommend Hawk Blue compound for RA.

YES, they are metallic, and produce alot of brake dust.
Just wash the Car/truck when ya get home.
dont let it sit on your Paint/wheels for long,
cause its metal dust, and will rust, and cause problems
if ya do NOT Clean it off right away,
    with in a few days.

JOSH, what pads did ya have last time at RA.
didn't you have any brake fade after 4 or 5 laps?

    PS josh,

no it will not eat your rotors.

but i buy a new set of rotors for RA ech time,

    $65 x 2, $130 = rotors
    $175 , Hawk Blue Pads

$305 in brakes, each RA event for me.

i'd rather pay that, than a Body Shop, for crash damage.

Not even that. You can take the blues and matching rotors off when not running at RA or other events. Or you could get an old set of rotors and have them turned.

I just ran brand new autoZone "Performance Friction Z Rated Carbon Metallic" pads. Yes they had bad fade after 4 or 5 laps, I melted them and set them on fire. The metal turned pink and white. The caliper rubber boot scorched. I am strongly considering upgrading from the stock 1-piston 10.5" rotors to the Baer Sport 12" dual piston kit. It has PBR calipers and I beleive it uses the C4/Cobra style brake pads. Sounds like it cost $700 or so though.

Well tell me what ya go with cuz I might go with same. I was looking at the same kit as you I think its called the Track kit? But baers brake pads were expensive as hell. They wanted like 250+ for highperformance race pads.

Since the Baer kit just uses the PBR C4/Cobra style calipers, it's my understanding you can just use standard pads for a C4 or a Mustang Cobra of some year, I'll let you know. Baer has not responded to my email yet. (1 full day so far)

After the RA event I am doing three MAJOR mods then I'll be close to done with my s10!

    1) Machperformance ATI Procharger kit

ATI P1SC (upgradeable to F1 where applys), GIANT ATI intercooler, and 12psi!

    2) Baer Pro Brake system

13.25" rotors and Alcon alum 4 piston calipers.

    3) LT1 T56 Swap

That's a different kit than what I was looking at. I am very fond of my stock Syclone 16" wheels and plan to keep them forever; bought a 2nd set actually. But unfortunately the biggest rotor I can fit is a 12" so the Baer 2 piston Sport kit is probably the largest I can run. I hope it's enough.

The kit pictured is 3.3 grand I think? Only because it incorporates a whole new spindle design. It converts to rotors w/ a separate hub. Instead of the stock rotor/hub design

Oh btw when the s10's done I'll be hunting for a certain s/c'd Ford pickup in South Milwaukee!
