    Any 6.5l guys?

I picked up a 1994 blazer with the 6.5 in it, curious if any guys around here are familiar with them. Tips? things I should be watching for?

The pmd box that sits on top of the engine is susceptible to heat and prone to failure. Kennedy diesel makes a pmd relocation kit which moves it to the firewall

Already been relocated to the frame rail... at least according the the previous owner. I have yet to actually look for it.

Its only got a couple of issues, and for a 94 with 202K on it, I think i stole it.

Gear indicator doesn't move, AC doesn't work, pass side door lock is sticky (power locks only work 50% of the time), and it starts hard. It does have the SES light coming on breifly sometimes, so I will need to learn how to read OBD I codes again (its been a while!). I'm thinking its the glow plug controller, but could be the plugs themselves as well I think.

Haha... you should see the paint job. it is wicked awesome. I think I'm doing a drive to green bay this weekend, coming back with a very light trailer. so I'll be tracking mileage. Thus far I've just been tooling around town with it, but I've got about 170 miles on 15 gallons (roughly).

Weakest link in that truck will be the transmission. It either has a 700R4 or the 4L60 in it, neither of which should have ever been put behind a deisel engine. If it ever breaks, just switch it to a manual trans.

Hmm, I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure its not a 4L80 because it was in a 1500 series truck.

Looks like they put the 4L80 behind the 7.4, 8.1, 6.5d, 6.6d, regardless of weight rating. Assuming my source is good...

4L80e was not behind the 6.6 duramax...ever...so I'd question the accuracy of that sight just based on that.... and the 8.1L would only have a 4l80e if it was a suburban, a van, or the 2500 avalanche...in the light trucks and the medium duty trucks it had an allison.... easiest way I know to ID your trans is to crawl under...if its a square pan its a 4L60e if it is a rectangular pan with one rounded corner.. 4L80e

I'll take a peek at that.

In other news, I found out that I bought this blazer from 350-Z28's dad. I bought and intake from SSDiesel Supply for it, and picked up the #9 resistor while I was at it, went to put in in and found none in there.

In Express van applications, the duramax was mated with a 4L85E. Power was also dropped to 250hp and 460 ft lbs, opposed to the normal 650ft lbs of the LBZ

Yeah...look under to ID positively. I looked up on da intranets and from what I could discern, it looks like it'll be the 4L60e

my info came from this thread here:
    http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=416977

the guy complains of trans problems in the thread, specifically identifying it as the 4L60e, and no one on that page batted an eyelash despite being 6.5 guys. Turned out to be a bad PMD btw. Also looked like a couple blazer diesel guys swapped to 4l80's too...

I don't think I'd be able to make use of it without the entire harness and ECU... I'd throw you scrap price for it?

You could take whatever you wanted it still in the van but you would have to take the whole van

Poorest web link in that vehicle will be the transmitting. It either has a 700R4 or the 4L60 in it, neither of which should have ever been put behind a diesel motor. If it ever smashes, just change it to a guide trans. . . . . . . .
