gen 1 sbc and blow thru carbs

How much horsepower can a gen 1 sbc block hold?! 500hp??! 600!? Per say someone was looking to build a 700hp sbc.... Would an aftermarket block be needed?!

WHat about blow thru carbs..... Are they a pain in the ass for someone to setup and get it in a ball park??

from what i remember 500 is safe for all gen 1 blocks, 700 requires selecting the right gen 1 block but it is plenty capable.

I don't think I have heard of too many Gen 1 blocks actually failing? I think there are plenty out there with more than 500-600hp

as long as its not the lightweight block,it should hold fine to upwards of 8-900hp.rpm and deto are the real killers. after 900ish hp you may be OK,or it may want to throw the mains out the bottom. if you intend on beating this thing up hard,i would give it a half fill in the water jackets to keep it sturdy.

as far as the blow thru stuff,do yourself a favor and buy one made for what you are building. it will put you in the ballpark for tuning from the start, saving many headaches. On gumby,we had 13.2 a/f cruising and it would dip to 11.2 in boost....out of the box,no tweaks.
