a friend of mine toasted the motor in her cruiser (timing belt went). so... does anyone have one for sale or know where she could get one for fairly cheap? the car is pretty new (for her) and she just got the loan refinanced... lol what luck.

I know these engines are interference engines but why not try putting a t belt on. You don't have to put it all back together right away if it works the finish it up. At my shop any interference engines that have broken t belts, we tell our customers that there may be internal damage. Most don't want to spend the cash to pull the head and opt to just slap a belt and hope for the best. And I'll tell you I've had success and a lot of them were totally fine.
I also know that replacing t belts on pt's and neons are a pain in the ass due to the bracket with the long bolts.

Jesus you weren't kidding. I could have done it for half that or so with a reman, less with a used motor.

Sucks. Sounds like its her fault totally though, you have to do the timing belt when its due lol.
I have several of em, one has like 180K on it and both of mine have proven to be pretty reliable, I haven't had to do anything to them that I would consider outside normal maintenance. The 180K one is still on the original clutch even...
