I prefer ex-military weapons, they have history behind them. I have rifles from the late 1800's on up to the current day. I don't get into fancy Remchesterby's and the like. I hunt with what I have and what I like, whether it a 120year old 1888 Commission rifle, a WWI era Turkish mauser, WWII era Russian Mosin, Pre or post WWII Yugo Mauser,an AK or the CETME I built from a parts kit. The scope mount on my CETME also allows use of it irons. I may eventually may change mounts to a lower one.

    To each their own.

I was getting tired of missing so I bought a new gun.

No actually I am using a Semi auto Remington 30.06 for when I am in the Tower of Power.

    Then I'm using a Mossberg 500 12GA for driving.

Rossi remake of the 1892 lever

This is a pic from the web, not the exact one I ordered however. Mine will have a 24" octagon barrel, chambered in .45 Colt. Should be here by Wednesday, I will post better pics then.

That's what makes them great!! If it's good enough to kill a man it's good enough to kill a deer.

For the first time ever i think i have to agree with stew I built an AR for fun and shoot it at the range every once in a while but i wouldn't take it deer hunting. I think it kind of gives hunters a bad name and would get a lot of nasty looks where i used to hunt. I think it just kind of goes back to tradition, it looks like even here the trusty lever action 30-30 is still the preferred gun of choice.

Oh yeah, the deer gun is a 760 .30-06 pump action with a shitty 3x9 scope, gets the job done.

I think he is refering to the closed minded people that will think " He is hunting with a machine gun".

Back to old military guns, Anybody know anything about a Remington model of 1917 30-06? My buddy has one and wants to find out a little more about it.

Those people are almost as bad as anti-gun people for our rights. Those are the "I don't care if they ban those, I don't use them" people.

20 Slugs downrange and the red dot isn't where I want it and I ran out of slugs.

I hate shooting slugs off the bench in a short shotgun

Very nice rifles. I like them. Is it sportered or in original configuration? For an old bolt action, I appreciate the longer sight radius and the fantastic peep sight as compared to the other offerings from the time. Here is a basic rundown from the CMP.
