    Thanks Jeff: Z06 Muffler Mod

    Jeff:

Thanks for getting me in on short notice. The more I drive the car, the better I like the sound.

Highly recommend the mod for any other C6 Z owners.

    Jeff:

Actually like the sound. Wife said it sounds great. I had my doubts but well worth the price. Sounds great in the garage firing it up and going away.

    Better than a $1500 catback!

Z06s have a baffle inside that opens up under WOT. Some people mod them to keep it open all the time.
All posts from the above author are expected to be 100% BS. Thank you and have a nice day.

The C6 Z06 has 4 tips but only two are used below 3500 rpm. At 3500 rpms, the extra center pipes have valves that open the inner tips allowing a louder sounding exhaust and a small boost in HP. As mentioned, some people pull a fuse leaving the inner tips open allowing for a louder sound. Problem is, it still sounds like a motor boat.

To improve the sound of the exhaust, the muffler mod involves opening up each muffler, welding a piece a solid metal around the perforated pipe within the muffler. Now with the inner tips open, the car has a much better sound as more of the exhaust noise passes through the muffler and not being absorbed by the sound absorbing material in the muffler.

Catbacks are stupid expensive for Corvettes. The muffler mod is a good alternative.

how much for this mod, if you don't mind my asking??

also, is the car just as quiet as it was before at freeway speeds with the valves closed??

finally, is there any way to remove the catback and take it there to have them do the mod--i live about an hour north and would rather just bring my mufflers as opposed to the car. i have an '09 with mild to wild switch, mgw shifter, and halltech killer bee

    thanks

You can take the system out. Best way seems to be to drop the h-pipe before removing the mufflers. From what I know the right side can be a little more difficult. Also need to eb careful removing right side over axle pipe. There are electrical connections that can be damaged when pulling the right side exhaust.

Drop Jeff a PM. Not sure of the price carrying it in. On car removal and mod run from $200 to $250.00

Car is just like factory with valve closed until 3500 rpm, then you hear the improvement. I normally drive with the valve open. A little louder but the sound is noticably different and for the better.
