Angry Already having problems with the Jeep.

Alright, so when I bought that car, I signed a "As-Is" contract. Pretty much making me responsible for anything that happens after I drove it off the lot. But anyways, I'm going to try this short, yet detailed. 2 days after driving the car off the lot, it starts to make a grinding noise only in reverse. Didn't seem to make the car hesitate or anything while backing up, just making the noise. Noise can't be heard from the outside of the Jeep, only in the cab. I took it back to the dealership, I was very calm and polite, told him I love driving this thing, but it's literally less than 3 days since I bought it and it's already making noise. I thought the noise was in the rear end, he thought it was the brakes. Made an appointment to take it back today (04-10-10). So I leave that day, and then about an hour later a little squeeling noise starts to come from the serp belt. So when I dropped it off today told him to look at that too. Go to get the Jeep a few hours ago and he told me that the belt is squeeling because is "saturated" I will have to wait til it dries off. And he said they flushed the gear lube and put all new lube inside the pumpkin. He said you will still hear the grinding til you get a few more miles on the lube. So I say okay, grab my keys and go. I get home and thing, "I wonder if they even did anything, or just did something that will "patch" the problem for now. Basically I'm asking where to go from here. Give it a week and see if the noises go away? Take it back to him tomorrow and say fix the problem the right way? And remember I signed an "As Is" contract, pretty much making me responsible for the problems from here on out. Any advice? Should I just fix the problem myself and not even deal with them anymore?

I bought a jeep a few years back off a corner lot, as-is also. Had it for barely 1 full day and the fuel pump crapped out on me. The pump was $450 and I didn't even want to know what the labor was. Went back, bithched a little but was still an adult, and he would only give me $100 bucks off. I wanted him to at least buy the part, but the reality is that it is ultimately Your responsibilty like you said.

I would deffinately try and push the issue of them fixing it while in the back of your mind know that you will probably be the one paying for and fixing it. But it's worth a shot!! Just my opinion. Good luck!

Make sure you document everything. Keep meticulous records and receipts. Be polite and do not get heated or argue. This will all pay off if you for some reason you need to go to small claims court. As is doesn't always mean that if deception can be proved by a good clever lawyer .

It's probably got a Chrysler-special D44 in it. So it's quite possible it's munched inside. If the cover hasn't been off they're full of donkey-dung about flushing it. It's pretty easy to tell if the cover has been off.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you got a polished turd. And they're just hoping you go away.
Buy made in the United States. Otherwise your job might be next. Unless you already wear black shoes and a visor with golden arches on it to work in which case your fellow american has already failed you.

I dunno highly doubt a 2wd cher would have a D44. I'm guessing it has the far worse D35C. Now that thing is a POS.

I'm probably gonna get flamed because I bought it from a small dealership off Howard And Forest Home. I still like having the Jeep, and it runs great otherwise. Might just have to bite the bullet on this one and have it repaired myself by someone else.

Jeepforum.com honestly there's a ton of information and thousands of users on there. I bet you'll at least find out what your problem is on there.

Take it to somewhere like auto analyzers on 84th/Greenfield. They do free diagnostics, and tell you what they'd charge to fix it. Just tell em you can't afford it, but you'll know what it is and you can fix it yourself...

Whoops, you're right. I don't know WTF is was typing last night. Too many Magners. Managed to get out the Chrysler special part.

Anyway, if it's got ABS it'll have the assembly-me-later custom Chrysler Dana 35. Otherwise it might have a Chrysler 8.25 and IIRC that year would have had the nice 29 spline one.

A couple good one-wheel-peel with one tire on gravel and one on asphalt then going to asphalt with the other tire is enough to cause a D35c great pains.

I've never heard of a "saturated" serpentine belt either.

Me either, but it stopped squeeling so I'm happy. I'm gonna go take the rear end to get checked out ASAP.

Probably meant it was saturated with coolant or some other liquid. It swells the belt and it squeals.

I saw a few of them bite the dust in AZ on some VERY mild trails. But then again I saw some take one heck of a beating. For the most part the D35C's are junk. Not sure about the grinding in reverse tho. You'd be able to tell pretty easily if it was coming from the rear or the tranny.
