Honda people - a few questions.

A guy I work with wants me to replace the timing belt on his 2003 Civic EX.

    1.7L MFI VTEC.
    112K miles.

The instructions I got tell me to disconnect the battery - no problem. But then it says I need to "reprogram the ECM/PCM engine idle characteristics". Is this a program that needs to be downloaded back into the ECM?

Is this something best left to a dealer?

Any other things to watch for while doing the work?

He would like all the belts changed, along with the water pump and the fuel filter.

    TIA for your help.

I ve done these and I never disconnect the battery. For the simple reason of the radio lock codes. Most people don't know or have the code so it just makes it easier. If the civic has abs it will be a little harder to work around. But don't worry about disconnecting the battery.
