    4I NOTCH's YFZ 450 BUILD .

Well , it's time to "turn up the wick" on Jesse's YFZ 450 !

The ATV is a 2008 YFZ 450 SPX with about 20 hours on it.....

Factory break in is done now and we are going to install some real "go fast " parts on this Mather Facker !

Stay tuned for pics and vids of the build up !

    Plan

The first parts going on will be a aftermarket exhaust system from Monster Pipe , fabricated aluminum airbox with conical K & N filter , Dyno Jet Master Kit carb jets .

These mods will really wake up the YFZ !

Should net us about a 10 HP gain !

I want to really get into tuning ATV engines for power.....I have been learning as much as I can about tuning online and it's really interesting to see how much there is out there....

Watch this post , as the parts come in I will update with pics....

    Starting point

Here is the 450 we are starting with.....I want to be sure we don't do anything to mod it that makes it less of a trail machine since we ride state trails in summer months....

    Hi flow airbox k & n conicial

I installed the new HI FLOW Airbox today.....I added some extra touches to improve things a liitle...

I added some heat shield barrier tape to the airbox side that faces the exhaust pipe to try and keep that intake as as cool as it can be....

I also added some rubber isolators to the airbox mouting screws , the factory airbox has a similar set up but , the aftermarket airbox did not..

The HUGE K & N fliter is really a tight fit into this box ! My Raptor uses the same filter but, the airbox is quit a bit longer ...

Here is the stock YFZ 450 airbox , as you can see it's very restrictive and has only a small air intake opening on it ....

Here it the new set up installed complete , lots of AIR to breath in now !

Here is the underside shot where the exhaust will be , you can see the heat barrier tape is placed perfect to keep temps down a little....

    Raptor a arm gaurds

I also installed our Raptors A - Arm gaurds .....These are Pro Armor , I had to modify the outward mounting points as I have a 4 inch lowering kit on it....They are very quality pieces and will work very good I'm sure.....

    Jetting

As soon as I get the new pipes on Jesse's YFZ I wanna get it out to do some test runs .....I need to jet the carb in and fine tune it.....I have the huge master jet kit from Dyno Jet with tons of jets and needles so I'm sure we will get this thing tuned in perfect.....Still more mods to come on this , we will go into the engine but, prolly not for this season....

I'd say your probably just better off letting the clutch take it on the chin a little more for the launch, you don't want to jump out of the beams.

Yep , we are going to have to slip that clutch some to get off the line....

I installed the BOYSEN QUICK SHOT II ! This will give a huge shot a fuel to the bottom end to get rid of the stumble it used to have off idle .....

    Stock vs. Qs2 photo

Here is the QS2 accel pump cover assembly next to the stock one . You can see the difference in how much fuel the QS2 can hold compared the stock part...
