    Oil Drain Plug...WTF?

So I went to get the car out because it was nice this weekend, but realized an oil slick coming from underneath it. I discovered the drain plug was leaking. I put a new gasket on the drain plug (one of those metal ones with the rubber in the middle) and there was STILL a puddle on the cardboard I put down the next day. Normally I wouldn't care but I'm running 20-50 and it's cold out, so once it warms up I'm concerned the leak will speed up quite a bit. I think the threads in the bung on the pan are ok because the plug tightens, just doesnt seem to seal. Should I use a different gasket? Different drain plug? Any Ideas? Motor's an Olds 455 with aftermarket 8qt pan.

well I was thinking about using some chewing gum and wrapping it arounr the threads, but you're right, welding it might work better...

Are you positive it's the drain plug? My oil pan had enough corrosion that it was leaking.

Well to use loctite ide have to drain the oil and make sure the threads are free of oil....but I'm gonna try the thread tape idea

I think that would take a metal gasket only

if the plug didnt work i would say that you should have a bung welded on to your pan because the threads on the pan must be a little mesh up new bung and a plug and should be no leaks

    i hate CHINESE "race" parts.
its tough to find an oilpan or timing cover that is worth a shit these days....especially if you dont want to pay big dollars.

I took it up by Jim and put the car on the rack to actually take a good look at it. We ended up finding a hairline crack in the pan....looks like I'll be freezing my ass of at the storage unit this weekend pulling a motor! :-)
