    got a new toy

its a colt m4 .22lr. this is a dedicated .22 not an ar15. the quality seems pretty good, full metal construction. i sighted it in last week with some federal ammo from walmart and it shot pretty good. i bought a box of federal target ammo and see if that makes any kind of difference. things i dont like are the crazy long magazine and non-functional dust cover.

Nice Justin! Im getting the S&W 15-22 this week myself!

From what I read the Colt likes all the high velocity ammo, may jam early on using standard ammo. I held the S&W a couple days ago...Im going back for it thurs or fri.

    Some funny GunBroker ads..

I have heard that the S&W has been much better in overall reliability than the "Colt". I don't own either, so I don't know or pretend to know. If they work right after finding out what it likes, it seems like a blast.

I didnt look when I was at Cabelas but expect them to be high end,$500. As they are turning up guys online have gotten them anywhere from $425- $499 with a lot of $449's out there. I'll drive all over and report back where I buy it.

Im on a few gun boards, mostly long range stuff but the guys who have the Colts and found ammo "their" gun liked had no problems at all. Rimfire rifles usualy need twice the ammo pushed thru them before everything cycles smooth.

Justin, experiment with different ammo, higher power the better, no "target grade" ammo. Blasters, stingers, mini mags and the like. You have any problems save the spent or unfired ammo so I can look at it, we can tune it.

yeah i read up on it and heard people were having problems with some ammo like remington. and federal seemed to work good. i had no problems with the federal that i had, but i put probably only 60 rounds through it. i also read that if you adjust the bolt speed for the slower ammo then it works fine. i picked mine up for $625 at the Dam Road Gun Shop in delevan. only other place i checked the price was cabelas, they wanted $640 for it. the dam road gun shop was a bit of a drive but i liked the fact that its a little family owned place.

took it to mcmiller today. shot maybe 300 rounds through it with a mix between federal bulk ammo and federal target ammo. i had 2 failure to fires and one failure to eject. not sure if it was the ammo or the gun. when it failed to eject the shot just felt weak and at 25 yards out was a couple inches below all the other shots. with a scope and 30 rounds it would shoot a hole in the paper about an inch in diameter. it was probably a bad idea but one of the failure to fire rounds i tried two more times to shoot and it just wouldnt go. it had 3 good strikes on it just as deep as all the others but just wouldnt go. i didnt want to keep it due to feeling like having a live firecracker do i just tossed it. other than that i had a great time! we shot the beretta u22 neos and it was a blast also. the trigger is much lighter than my gun. any recommendations on some kind of sight to put on it? lets try to keep it under $100

A few mifires is expected from any rimfire early on, sounds like yours is fine. Funny you had a u22 with, so did we today and we were just south of you in Delevan.

I've been reading alot about red dot scopes tonight, never used one before today and it was only an e-bay airsoft model, worked great. There are tons of threads when you Google the topic, realy cant go wrong short of buying a BSA or some other oddball. There are good reviews on even the $40 truglo's. I'm probably gonna get something in between like a Bushnell between $80 and $160.

Inlaws house, right out of gun store, left at dead end, right at A, left at Island rd. I dont know of any outdoor gun ranges around here. Jackson marsh is the closest place for me on the northside.
