looking for ideas for a .17hrm or suggestions

i went to the range a few days ago and shot one. i fell in love the with the round. the one i had shot was a savage mrk II it was really dialed in at a 100 yard i had fired a 1" group in 3 shots.. i was more then impressed with this little rifle and the more i research i see its way more devastating then a 22lr. this weekend i plan on going to a few stores to see what they have on the racks but im also watching one on gunbroker. any name brands i should stay away from or look at would be appreciated

I can't say anything about the HRM, but I have a little N.E. Arms (H&R).17 Mach2 that I picked up from Russ Jerome last November. I haven't gotten it zeroed yet, but the groups are awesome for a gun/scope combo I have maybe $200 in. Depending on where you find ammo, it's fairly inexpensive. You can get the Remington Mach2 stuff from J&G Sales for around $3.00 per box of 50

Don't you have a 10/22? Why not just convert?

    Oh hell yea it did!!!

If you can swing it I recomend a CZ 452 ($680). The fit and finish is awsome, fully adjustable trigger, and walnut stock.

Dont overlook the 17HM2 as noted above, cheaper to shoot, not as loud and identicle balistics at 100 yards and less, where you will do 99% of your shooting anyway.

Check out the Magnum Research 10/22 in composite receiver and plastic barrel, chamberd 17hm2. 4# squirel gun you can hold like a pistol.

I picked up a Savage .17 HMR (alot like the one for sale on lake link) and at 100 yards, my grouping was pretty good and that was with a 3-4x40 Simmons cheapie scope on it.

This was my target the very first time I took it out. The first 3 or 4 errant shots was me adjusting the scope and after that, the grouping was pretty tight.

This was at 100 yards with only a 9x scope and a 15+mph crosswind...

I plan to put some better optics on the rifle because at 100 yards, my crosshairs smothered the bullseye.

Pretty damn good for a little rimfire and a shitty low power scope.

LOL, no doubt! The .17 is for hunting on the move. Thats why half of me doesnt want to go tossing a big scope on it. Most shots I get when we are on the move are well inside of 100 yards.

When I set up in a more fixed capacity, the .204 Ruger gets to play. Talk about a fast tack driver!

Starlings at distance has been my outlet for killin stuff lately, just good fun and I bet that 17 would work great (and cheaper than my 223 at the rate of miss beyond 250yards!). I need some up close and personel time with killin stuff.

AHH yes, it is a Remmy 597, semi-auto, don't plan on eating the squirrel unless you get a headshot.
Mossberg 817 bolt in stainless, nice gun too.
