my #4 piston. Its "jaw dropping" (pics)

Or so I've been told...I'll let you be the judge

    Looks perfectly fine right?

    NOT!!!

Good thing we (me and curt) caught it last spring/summer. The Piece wasn't hanging out like it was showing, the ring was actually holding it in tight and flush so it couldn't scratch the sleeve/walls. I didn't realize that it was cracked there until i went to pull the piston ring off....

That piston, still held a 120 compression... So just an fyi, if your numbers across the board aren't within 10%(i think that the variance allowed, if not someone correct me) its best to start investigating, because this could have been alooot worse.
    [ The numbers went 180, 180, 180, 120]

I've been working on it little by little. Alex tyler, and eric helped me take the head off and everything else, i've been bored after work so i've been taking the rest out little by little.

    Piston destruction is always fun:

Glad the walls are okay though!

I've got its twin sitting the garage next to me, boost detonation took out the complete ringland but held together.

Jawdropping is a 2" wide piece of my 2.2 block I sent into the water jacket at 24psi at GLD

russ, don't forget my DOHC neon daily driver i got from mark(not on this board)...

the crack went through the top of the piston like a "y" and there was a chunk of the top of the piston missing at the base of the "y"... i'll find a picture somewhere and post it... it was epic!

    Lightbulb

Ringlands go frequently on stock Honda blocks (boosted, pushing 3x stock HP), rarely does it do more than a few scratches. There usually isn't enough space for moving, or small pieces, to scratch the walls.

At least it was something minor, cracked sleeves are a real bitch

That looks a lot like the Quad 4 HO piston I have in the garage...... car was N/A, and ran pretty good too.
