    Blackened Oil

So I changed my oil less than 3000 miles ago. I have a rear intake leak so I had to add oil about a month ago(3 QTs). Can anybody explain to me why my oil is turning black with so few miles between oil changes.

uh..............you were running the motor with about 1 qt in it....

you MIGHT consider checking it a little more often if its leaking that bad.

Blowby? Combustion gasses are getting into the crankcase, turning the oil black

I'd fix the oil leak-with rings and bearings to start

nobody else is laughing at this? motor has 160k on it. it's NOT NEW. it's dirty inside, turns the oil black fast

Did it turn black because it's dirty or because it's overheated?

160k of crappy oil can cause all sorts of buildup in the valve covers.
Buy made in the United States. Otherwise your job might be next. Unless you already wear black shoes and a visor with golden arches on it to work in which case your fellow american has already failed you.

a properly maintained engine, even with high mileage on it, is clean on the inside.I would suspect the oil in his is black from overheating it,or from blowby. The oil tries to cool the bottoms of the pistons and the valve springs, and 1 quart just isnt enough to dissipate all that heat....the oil broke down.it may stay a little cleaner with 4-5 qts in the pan as it were designed to have.

Is your oil pressure still good? im surprised with only 1-2qts in the engine that your pressure didn't drop if you made a turn or stopped hard.

like others said, probably a real dirty engine inside. if you want help with that intake just give me a shout

Unfortunately my schedule doesn't afford me much free time so it will be a last minute decision when I do it.

Ron are you suggesting that I just do a few more oil changes more frequently
