^^ Wasn't fond of the video, but the song itself was pretty cool.

I tested a lot of recreational pharmaceuticals in the day (70s). Ooops, there goes my chance at political office.

I made this post all by myself with no supervision.

Bringing it back from the dead I guess, but I was shown this band last night. They been around forever, and have had a bunch of vocalists but the original vocalist still writes the lyrics. Pretty intense song and video.

The issue here is that Metal is a very broad genre of music as you can tell by the bands already listed in this thread. Wikipedia lists 19 different genres plus an additional 11 cross-genres of metal. Chances are pretty good no one person will like all of the genres, but who's to say one is true metal versus another. Although I will say that glam shit from 80's was just super gay cock rock.

I still listen to all that stuff constantly. King Diamond (who I met on two occasions! ... and I walked around with a giant upside-down cross on my jean-jacket for years, lol), Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth, Dio, etc.

Nowadays I listen to a ton of progressive metal. Royal Hunt, Shadow Gallery, Dream Theater, Fates Warning, Serenity, and tons more.

There's still some good sh** out there being recorded.

I played bass guitar with a death metal band years back, and some of the sh*t that went on in those days......ah, memories, lol.........

Ya, alot of things some may lump into the "metal" category are VERY different. I think that a lot of bands are really more "hard rock" than the spirit of metal. Metal to me has to be the hardest/heaviest thing you can find, regaurdless of sub-genre. Back then, metal was Sabbath/Ozzy, Motorhead etc. Today I think its bands more like BFMV, As I Lay dying and some of the like. I will be honest that I haven't followed any "underground" music in a year or so, not sure whats changed
