You would be a big fan of Manowar and Savatage then.

I love them!! Both excellent bands.....there's just something about that type of metal, it really is awesome, like the soundtrack to go with Frank Frazetta artwork, if that makes any sense......

The first heavy metal bands, such as 'Accept', 'Dio', 'Iron Maiden', 'Manowar' and 'Metallica' originated in the early 80s.
What a load of shit. Who ever wrote that article is an idiot. I guess the fact that Black Sabbath was writing heavier stuff than any of those bands listed back in the early 70's doesn't count? Sabbath released their self titled album in 1970. After being told about the band by a friend in junior high, I bought my first Sabbath 8-track (yeah, that's right 8-track ) Sabbath, Bloody Sabbath in 1974. That was Sabbath's 5th album. Early 80's indeed...

Oh, I know EXACTLY what you mean.
I used to hang out at a place called the Moon Fun Shop at Southgate Mall and stare at the posters of those half-nekid warrior chicks while checking out the magic tricks and the "Smoker's paraphernalia" I really miss those days and that store...

Listen to jjo.....they have the most "new metal" out there for radio stations.....the hog is deacent, however they play a lot of hair metal....and indipendant radio 102.1.....they are waiting for the return of grunge and alternative.

Hell I am surprised no one mentioned anything about TOOL

I remember a few shops like that.......sad that they are all gone. Seems like all the really good stuff, music, shops, everything, are all gone and over. I remember when I was really young, me and my friends listening to that music, and at the time, we really believed maybe it was about some ancient, magical prophecy, that the bands that performed it really knew something arcane........it was fun to be that innocent, and those times were great.

My nephew Allen used to play drums for this band.
His favorite experience was playing in Romania in Vlad Tepid's castle.

Bands like Kiss, Slayer, and others of that ilk are pop-metal, metal for the mainstream. The heavier stuff we all know about; death, gore, etc. I like some of it, but I think the guttural throat screaming is getting to be very over done. Aside from that, some of the stuff coming out of Norway and other Scandinavian countries is pretty intense. The term Heavy Metal originated in an Iron Butterfly song about heading out in fast cars looking for adventure, Born To Be Wild. It really wasn't about bikes. That was because it was featured in that biker flick, Easy Rider.

Was just thinking the same thing...

The only thing I remember the one-hit-wonder Iron Butterfly for was Innagoddadavita.

Let rock to some FFDP in the mini van next time. If I ever get a ride from you to a car show again.

Took my wife, and her parents to FFDP at S.Fest. They hated it. I also saw them in Madison in 2007. Great band comprised of some former Motograter members. Ivan (lead singer) Moody's other band Ghost Machine is also quite cool but much more rock/electronic than metal.
