Sportsman's Warehouse stores closing in Wisconsin
By Doris Hajewski of the Journal Sentinel
    Mar. 10, 2009

Sportsman's Warehouse in New Berlin and De Pere will close in 60 days, the company announced Tuesday.

The stores, which opened in 2004, are among 23 that will be closed by the Utah-based sporting goods chain. New Berlin store manager Wanda Luebke said a liquidation sale will begin soon. Sixty people are employed at the store.

Sportsman's Warehouse also announced the sale of 15 locations to UFA Co-operative LImited, of Alberta, B.C. A release on the company's Web site said Sportsman's Warehouse hopes to stay in business elsewhere with 2,300 employees.

Before the closings and sale, the company operated 67 stores in 29 states. Sportsman's Warehouse is privately owned, with revenues of about $800 million.

I live about 2 miles from Cabelas but I preferred the Sportsmans in New berlin. There lake michigan tackle was/is top notch. They alway had alot of stuff in stock no one else does. I will definitly be stopping in there before they close....

Wish they would close cabelas instead, place sucks.....

I had a friend pick up a kimber 1911 for 500 dollars one of the last days the west bend store was open. Its worth going down there I'm in need of new travel case for my rifle. Last time I went out west some body at the airport beat the hell out of my current one. Its like they took a hammer to it. When I'm there I'll going to scan there pistol case .. to see if there are any deals.

Especially since guns sell themselves in the current environment. But if anyone can get a better deal hell go for it.

Hopefully they stocked up between the last time I was there and the announcement. Otherwise there isn't much selection, unless you want an XD , they had plenty of those.

It's sad to hear they are closing. I always liked going in there. A hell of a lot cheaper than Gander (then again, who isn't). I think they're location hurt them somewhat. They don't have the prime locations like Cabela's and Gander Mountain do. Hopefully there will be some decent closeout sales on stuff.

I didn't even know there was one in New Berlin. If I did, I wouldn't have gone to Cabela's for sure... and probably not Gander Mountain either.
Buy made in the United States. Otherwise your job might be next. Unless you already wear black shoes and a visor with golden arches on it to work in which case your fellow american has already failed you.
