    EGR Problem? 1997 Honda Civic

P1404 or P0404 came up, assuming its the EGR

I took it off to clean it out, lots of carbon build up. The small circle part inside the EGR, is that supposed to move? I'm pretty sure when I cleaned the EGR on Lisa's Blazer it moved in and out, am I wrong thinking this one should be similar?

its a valve, it should open and close...did you try spraying it with some brake cleaner? Thats probably why you are getting the code: because its froze up

But does it push IN or does it come out? a new one is over 200 bucks, if I can break this one loose thats what I'll do. I soaked the hell out of it with carb cleaner, still haven't gotten the plunger to move

I just did the one on my saturn and the small plunger was supposed to move easily. I had soooo much carbon built up that is wouldn't move. Soaked it down and cleaned it really good. Fixed the problem.

I got it moving freely now, it was pretty built up on the side of the piston dealie. I didn't see that it had a place on the top for an alan wrench, got it to spin and pull and its all cleaned up now. Hopefully the car is good to go for awhile now.

I had that code on my 99 SI and it was the bottom tube for the charcoal canister.

It was indeed stuck, got it open and free and reset the code and its back again. How much you think a junk yard would charge for the EGR?

Just the valve? Depends on what yard you go to.
