    Supercharging stock 4.6 DOHC motors

I see these stock superchargers on e-bay all the time:

If you were to cobble this under the hood of a 1998
Lincoln Mark VIII with its aluminum 4.6 DOHC thats
rated at around 280 what can you expect to gain HP
wise? Pulley swap HP increse guess?

Thinking about doing that gives me headaches as the motor in the Lincoln is transverse mounted. I would think the HP would be about the same as a Cobra after finished though.

No the Mark Series is RWD, bolt it on, tune it up and get 400HP to start, its 03 Cobra junk.

I think the Marks have cast cranks, hypereutectrash slugs and powdered rods so those will be some limiting factors. Thankfully they are also equipped ith the holy grail of 4.6 performance a TEKSID block.
Pretty sure all slushbox 4.6 DOHC's are cast crank equipped.

Like any other 4.6, they should handle 5-7lbs of boost (similar to the 96-98 cobras) the rods are the weak points followed by the pistons. The biggest hurtle your going to face is the lower intake. All the lincolns are B heads. All those superchargers are designed around the '99 up C head. The one in that auction doesn't even include the lower intake and heat exchanger.

It could be done though. It's just time and money.

The lower intake was another Q, thanks on the replies.

I think everyone has pretty much hit the nail on the head.... the rods will limit you, but still, 5-7 lbs will wake that motor up a bit, especially down low which is where my complaint has always been (especially on the 2V 4.6) needless to say it would be a cool project.

From what I can gather 450hp is a pretty fair limit for the Lincolns
cast lower end. More I read the HP gains on these setups is pretty
weak, cant believe how much HP is lost vs 7 psi from a turbo

I take it you mean a turbo compared to a Heaton?

Ya I was reading "Street supercharging" book after I posted
the question. I know from personel experience the returns of
an exhaust driven turbine (turbo) at 7 psi but the supercharged
return at the same psi is lower obviously due to the parasitic
drag of the belt and CFM limitations.

A used factory supercharger is still cheap HP compared to me
fabbing up manifolds and plumbing for a turbo, turbos returns
are far above but with a 450hp limit not needed.

I understand that you need to change the crank pulley, or modify the serpentine belts among many other things to get a stock terminator blower to work. I faintly remember reading about this a while ago in my Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine, the author of the tech article reccomended against attempting the swap over just buying an aftermarket blower.
