    Street Racing Hwy 100 1986

Ok here is a blast form the past.

Tim Jakus (ya' the owner of the "gray Nova") also had another car that he used to street race. He bought a 1972 Z/28 RS (super rare) with a roudy 396. The funny part was that his parents did not know he even owned the car and he used to store it at the Pick N' Save in Waukesha (in the parking lot).

We used to drive over there and pick up the car, fill it up with race gas, and head to Hwy 100 to race it. The thing at 12-1 compression, 4.11's, a big solid, Super T-10 4 speed and a Holley. It had BFG's so hook was a BIG problem !!!

One night we raced Senderhauf's Buick after the south turn-a-round on Hwy 100. We started from a slow roll and that big old Buick lurched as the cheater slicks grabbed, Tim banged second gear and the thing was still spinning, into third and we started gaining on them but it was too late. We were educated on the value of "hook" !!!

That car was purchased for the sum of $2,000 in 1986
(those were the days). How would you like to have this car today?

those were the days, you could pick up stuff cheap, yet alone storing it in a pick'n save lot! Hell you do that today and that car would be towed with in a week. NIce looking car.

    Hey Brian, cool story.

You probably don't know who I am, being a couple years younger than you, but I grew up a few blocks up the road from you in Waukesha (on Aldoro), and remember your cars well, especially the Nova.

Reading your stories brought back a lot of familiar names and cars I'd long forgotten about.. (The Senderhauf name is what made me stop and click on your website...I knew it sounded familiar). I was among the ones cruising hwy back in the late 80s.

    Good times, thanks for sharing.

Or stolen, especially the Camaro in the story. Heck, surprised it wasn't taken back then unless it was hidden somehow.

I didn't venture up to Hwy until the very late 90's, which seemed better than the last few years when I've accidentally been on it during cruise times and rarely see anything I consider cool. I can only imagine 10 years prior it was even better, something like the movie Dazed and Confused .

    Nice
An original 1972 z28 of which there were only 2575 made would be worth $25000 in #2 condition today.

    Mr. L88

If you were lucky enough to be around Hwy 100 in the mid 80's then you gotta remember Mike's Camaro "Mr L88" .

This car ran Tower back in the day and I remember some big wheel stands when he had the 509 in the car. It is for sale if anyone is interested....

Honestly things fell off back at the end of 03......and it was a steady decline before then....I can remember summer nights where it would be just packed...people would be hanging out ad the different gas stations and parking lots.......car clubs were booming, street racing ove on tower and st paul were going on on saturdays, and on sundays meeting the "crew" up at whittnal park and cruise on over to highway later on....When one of our friends passed away, the police actually escorted us for the "final lap" for them (that was after a bunch of us got pulled over fur running a few red lights the first time we tried to do it).....that was like 97-03....I was up there and at the races prior to then, my sisters boyfriends would take me to the spots because they thought it would be cool for me to watch........

I remember one morning around 6:30am when I was heading north on 13th street and Mike passed me heading to work with the Camaro(with the parachute on)...now that is a street car !!! We always had a lot of respect for that car and since the first time I saw the car parked on HWY 100 back in the 80's I called Mike "Mr L88" (Then when he put the 509 in the car he was "509 Mike"). Sure miss not seeing that Camaro ....
