Of their time? Try still today. They held every NHRA Super stock record and dominated the A classes pretty much continuously right up until now. At some point NHRA made a seperate class for them SS/AH much like NASCAR they regulated the Hemi out of competition since it was "unfair" lol.

Current record is low 8's from a "stock" car lol.

The Hurst cars ran 10's I believe out the door, had slicks and headers sold with the car.

Many of the "regular" hemi cars ran 12's or better as well with real drivers. Many magazine tests ended up with shitty 13 or 14 second times mainly due to tires and driving of the test cars...

At least the HEMI's were in the game for some time before NASCAR pulled the plug on them ......The 427 SOHC from FORD never gotta chance thanks to NASCAR.....I'm sure the history books would read different if the SOHC was playing around with the MOPAR HEMI engine....

The SOHC's did VERY WELL in NHRA races.....

I was thinking about that the other day. Do you think that if NASCAR allowed for such jumps in technology that today's race cars would all be DOHC and 4-valve?

also a guy in high school our senior year bought a 64 implala ss with a 2 carb set up on it, and she was all stock.....can't recall the motor though...and what about the small block 302 ..didn't it have a rare 2 carb set up on it...

as i said i've seen them on the cars..but i may be wrong, IT WON'T BE THE FIRST TIME OR LAST......but i've seen alot of them on restored old chevys

The 283 cu in (4.6 L) V8 was introduced in 1957. It was a version of the 265 cu in (4.3 L) with a larger bore at 3.87 in (98 mm). There were five different versions ranging from 185 hp (138 kW) to 283 hp (211 kW) depending on whether a single carb, twin carbs, or fuel injection was used. Power was up a bit each year for 1958, 1959, and 1960.

also in 1962-64 the 409 11.0 1 compression motors had the 2 -4bbl set up....
