    Spiro Pappas- Ultimate street racer

In the early 90's this car had slapper bar suspension and ran in the 9's through cheap turbo mufflers....now it runs 6.70's (in the quarter mile) at 220 mph. Technology...too cool

When he was street racing that car. in which I witnessed personally, it wasn't the thing to carry around cameras at 2am in Chicago around a bunch of street racers. Videos are out of the question- when that car was street raced recorders were the size of TV show cameras!! That would have been an excellent way to get shot and buried by the stockyards (one place they ran) off of 43rd & Halsted!
That was the car to beat!! License plate said "Luv u Fay"- His wife since passed away. I tried to look under that car at the 'Grove one time and three thugs "moved" me away and asked what the phuck I was looking for! That really was how it was. I do not believe he was ever beat in street racing. That is what I think Brian is referring to. Comparitively, street racers now for the most part are loud-mouth pussies. Hell I saw Big Drag race for a food store bag (yes that is what I said) FULL of money. I asked a guy with him if I could ask how much the race was for and he said...A house! Back then that meant over 50K. I am not exaggerating- that is how it was in Chi-town.

He ain't lyin about the BIG $$ races. Doty Road/Stoney Island Road on the south side of Chicago was notorious for this. and he's right, you didn't dare look to close or ask too many questions.

When Spiro would lock in a race, he'd open up the glove box where he had 3 gauges hiding, and he's pull the Monster tack out from underneath the seat, plug it in and clamp it to the dash. I believe he ran the car on 9"x30" slicks to go with the slapper bars. Badass.
