Santa got me an Remington R15 VTR!

Everything I've owned over the years have been totaly
geared towards long range accuracy, 26"long .799"thick
barrels weighing 14# with scope, fluted 24" barrels and
the like. Recent gun magazine reviews and the guys on
AR15.com have convinced me this 18" R15 is plenty:

The top is 22", middle is 18" fixxed and 18" colapsable
bottom is what I picked up tonight. This months Guns &
Ammo AR mag has the author holding a 300+ yard fox
he dropped with the same 18" gun, thats a small ass target
at over 300 yards! Built by Bushmaster they are getting
great reviews on groupings with the 1/9 barrel twist.

If you wanted a bushmaster, why didnt you buy a bushmaster? I havent priced the remingtons out but I imagine there more expensive...

The Rem was $1099 at Gander, the Bushy is up in the $1400
area with a 12 week lead time. The shelves around town are
empty of choices with dumbass coming into office soon.

The Rem is much lighter, thats a big plus for me after years of
target rifles. I dig the MAX1 Realtree camo, 18" over 20" barrel.
The Bushy has a better trigger stock, thats probably going to be
my first mod, not a bad trigger but not my Anschutz by a mile.

Interesting... Ive never been a fan of bushmaster, I owned two of them and in factory form they were horrible, constantly jammed up. Hopefully whatever they did for remington is better. Ive liked how that piece looked since I first saw it though, for the money it seems nice. Id like to shoot it some time.

Where the hell did you find an R15? Last I heard everyone was out and there was a 4 to 6 month wait on them.

I called and hit EVERYWHERE yesterday, Shooters shop has this model.....$200 over MSRP, Badger just sold the
22" model they had but ya every AR chassis is about gone.

Gander on Bluemound has a 22" model for $1099 right
now....there last AR they have in stock!

Dunhams on HWY has the longer one for $1299 and I
think there is a $25 off guns this week. Last I was in there
they also had a nice Bushy for $1399 or so.

Obamahistaria has pretty much emptied the shelves on top of major gun makers like DPMS shutting down for x-mas. Get you extended clips now while you can.

Nice rifle. I had the 22" at Gander on hold, but opted for a flat top DPMS at the show this weekend. It had more things that I wanted. The R-15 is a nice gun. Haven't heard any negatives with the exception of the trigger. The one I tried at Gander wasn't too bad at all.

Ya I expected a trigger like a breaking twig from the reviews but
with my trigger experience I bet I can stone and polish this one
below 3.5# and clean breaking. My wire and weights say this one
is just over 4# and is crisp as far as I can tell?

I just couldnt be happier with the weight, this is the lighest center
fire rifle I have ever owned (actualy its ligher than my Ruger target
barrel 22's !).

Yeah, I was very surprised with the weight as well. The only thing I didn't like was the barrel thickness. I really wanted something with a heavier barrel and ended up getting the DPMS. You can certainly notice the difference in weight though.

From everything I've read on modern accuracy I'm
hoping I wont be let down. I've seriously had some
incredible target rifles/pistols that ranged from Anschutz
Exempler pistols to a custom 26" full bull (1.1") counter
sniper rifle built and bedded on a 700 action for the
Texas state patrol (one of 70 made). Dragging those
beasts things thru the woods hunting realy got old.

10yrs ago had you said an autoloader could group -1/4
MOA at 100yards I would have laughed as I proudly
displayed my (now antique) $800 Sako weighing well
over 13#.....unloaded....no sling....barely grouped 3/4"
in 3 shot groups at 100yrds

I love that new DPMS 6.5 Creedmore, again weight kept
me from ordering it but its on my wish list for deer hunting.

I thought I heard a rumor that the Remingtons are made by DPMS.

The R-15 in 223 and 204 by Bushmaster, the R25 is
made by DPMS in 243,7mm-08 and 308. All three are
under the same ownership Cerberus...they own everything!

I realy wanted the R-25 but again your getting up to the
#9 unloaded area I need to try and avoid for hunting.

Optic are definately going to be glass, no non-zoom Halo
stuff for me. 4-16x 50mm is usualy what I buy, thats
the crappy part about AR's is the eye relief and the fact
the buffer is in the stock makes mounting it pricey and
well above the height a traget rifle would normaly be.

Nine pounds, no scope,ammo,sling,bipod ect.

Sick of toting heavy stuff, this thing will be light for long
hunting hikes. Going out to get some aluminum clips right
after x-mas. This will be under #8 completely setup.
