Saw a red Civic Del Sol in drag getup a couple of days ago... had a parachute on the back. No way in hell that thing was trapping 150 in the quarter without a JATO pod strapped to it.

That Del Sol has a turbo'd LS2 in it.....
After being at the track last year there is quick imports and some of them do need chutes.. I'm not a fan of them but when they're running 11's and faster as a street car that's pretty good for what it is!
01 Camaro SS - Daily

4-0 on the street for 2010!
My car runs 11s and I don't need a chute. AFAIK the chute requirement is based on trap speed and not ET (150MPH trap).
Based on what I saw, I don't think the car had anything requiring that chute... the tires he had on it were ridiculous.
Del Sol + RWD conversion... + LS2... + turbo? Sounds a little far-fetched to me. Not saying it isn't possible, lord knows enough money and you can pretty much make a car whatever you want it to be. Hell, I know you can dump an LS2 in a fiero for crying out loud.
Actually Fieros do surprisingly well in crashes. The media hype over them starting on fire was also way overblown. One or two caught fire and the fire was left to burn long enough to ignite the body panels... and well, the resulting body fire was pretty spectacular (so it got the media's attention). I think it was just the first iterations of the iron-duke 4 banger that did it anyway. None of the V6s (of which I had two) started on fire and if you swapped the engine, that would do away with the fire issue.
Every year at the dells there's a big Fiero gathering... all sorts of LT1/LS1 (and I'm sure by now LS2) conversions. The manuals tend to go through clutches pretty fast though since I think they're limited to a pretty small clutch.
You've seen the LSx Twin Turbo Solstice's right?
