Only 300 miles. Which means the head gasket will pop it's first winter.

Personally those were a disgrace to the 442 moniker.

Ahh the old W41s. Made a lot of power for an NA 4 banger back in the day.

But yea they were not too reliable.

I can't believe that thing fetches that kind of cash?!

Almost bought a black one of these back in the day. Disgrace to the 1970 version, maybe. But, these were faster 0-60 than the Z28's were during the early 90's. And they didn't even need a coffee can muffler or trunk mounted aluminum spoiler to do it

I always thought those cars were kinda cool.

I was unaware of how many problems they had tho.

IIRC...jake has a 2.3 HO in his car....not the same as the W41 motor....but close.

ThatW41 car is a high 14 second cars bone stock. Not bad for the early 90's.

those little bastards were hot for their time, and could hand any L98 their ass back then. The Beretta GTZ's and Grand Am GT's also got that H.O. motor and ripped too compared to their V6 counterparts

They were never labeled just "442" is was Quad 442.

190HP for 2.3L back in the late 80's was pretty wild for the time.

back in '90 we almost got a Quad-4-4-2. We have family in Lansing and actually went to the plant cuz my uncle worked there and got to see them on the assy line. They bought a quad-4-4-2 coupe, and we also brought home a Calais, just not as cool.
Well, at the very least, I have an interesting back story.

    No...the T-type was just a 2.8 v6...nothing too special.

what isthe difference between the 180 hp ho quad 4 and the w41? I didnt know there was any difference......

Buddy of mine had a gtz with the quad 4 ho that was bored, polished, camed, and ported (cost a shitload) that was putting out 354 hp at the front tires... not a bad car....

too bad they didnt use the same parts on the 2.4 dohc non ho cars that were in the z24/sunfire gt/grand am gt's

I hada 91 GA fora winter beat one year that had the basic 2.3 quad 4 with the intake that looked like a long tube header for my LS1 lol.

That pushed a gasket and fubared the head, we got a hold of a W41 head that had SCCA race cams in it and that thing loped like a DSM with big cams hahaha.

It was a turd downlow because it wasa 3 spd auto car, but once it got above 4K that thing really hauled ass for what it was!

Apparently working at a GM dealer during the early 90's skewed my opinion of the Quad 4, cause you guys sure seem to like them. I just will never get the vision of those turds being in every single heavy duty stall during winter waiting for head gaskets and a parking lot full of them outside waiting their turn.

I never drove one and thought they were anything special either. Not that back then much was.

The difference was W41 cams and a different ECU tune (higher revlimit and VE changed for the bigger cams). Thats how it got the 190hp (or was it 195hp?) rating.

With that said, 354 at the front tires... in a GTZ? Was this person in Milwaukee? Back in the day my buddy had a GTZ and we knew of most of the quad 4 guys in the area but never heard of any such car.
