    Tail light help.

My passenger side tail light on my 1998 Jetta is not working.
so i went to Wal-Mart got a new bulb, still doesn't work.
Then went to Autozone and they gave me a differant taillight, went out and tried it and still no luck.

I bought new fuses and a test light at wal-mart then and now the dumbass test light won't work at all (even on the things that still work) And put in new fuses with no help.

The odd thing about everything is the Brake lights works (same bulb) And the blinkers work (differant bulb) but no tail light.

What do you think it could be? i couldn't imagine it's the wiring to it because the brake light still works? i'm out of ideas.

    Anyone?

I have found at times when one light goes out another one will not work regardless if the bulb is good, are you sure there is only one bulb out ?

Any accidents in the past few months ?

Shit can go nuts when that happens

i'd say its time to get a multi-meter out and check point to point and find where the wire goes bad.... the tail and brake...tho in the same bulb run on different circuits

did you check to see if the tabs in the sockets were all corroded. the cabrio used to eat 4 or 5 bulbs a year until I cleaned them all.

so the turn signal worked and the blinker worked right? does the headlight work ok? maybe they share a relay or something...or maybe try a different socket.

both the blinkers worked up until today. i'm having a friend come over and check the relay b/c i have no idea how to check if the relay is bad.

sounds to me like a wrong bulb is in there or a bad socket
