Mike that's a killer story!! I haven't got a chance to ride in a new Z06 yet but I'll bet that big LS7 is quite a difference over the original LS1! You're a lucky guy...

If all goes well I might be racing RA this fall in my truck again, faster than ever! In fact I'm a little nervous about too much speed on the straights, do you think I should consider changing from the XP10s? Last time I ran turned-down rotors (which was a mistake I won't repeat) and they cracked really badly. I'm afraid of it happening again, even though I plan to use virgin Carbotech blanks.

i'll be running a good street pad with some drilled rotors... so i hope it slows my slow car down enough

Don't do it. Any street pad will be inadequate IMO. Spend the $200 and get a REAL race pad, you'll be very glad you did!! www.ctbrakes.com

Here's what my brand new "high performance Z rated street pad" looked like after ONE day of Road America:

Dangerous.... Needless to say I upgraded the brakes and switched to race pads before I returned to Road America.

    Um ya what josh said.

Street pad = LOW brake fade temp
    Drilled rotors = Heat+drilled = crackola

Wish I still had that pic of the porche rotors from RA last time.

This Vette only made it a session or 2 if I recall in spring before the rotor broke.
I'd personally never get drilled rotors.

There are some pads that can be dual purpose for lighter cars. I have used ebc reds at ra and while they lack the brake torque of a real race pad, they did stop the car everytime.
