the only reason the break is because the people who drive them run to much boost. when they are built right they move. i will say the timing belt suck! lol

ZLegal - I can see that you have never owned a DSM yourself.
They are able to break on low boost too. When they are built right, they still break something sooner or later. And no, the timing belts aren't that hard to take care of -- it is just basic maintenence.

no i had a conquest that was going to get a 4g63 swap into to it. plus i've helped alot of people work on them.
some of the time..there are street legal AWD DSM's that spin all the way through 1st and some of 2nd im related to a guy who can do this..30 psi launches FTW!?!?!...and a 16g in the 11's is very unlikely IMHO...just because some people have done it doesnt mean you will. 11's you better get something more around the size of a 50 trim. or a plain ol 20G might do it.
Comparatively to a front or rear drive they dont need slicks. Even if you can get the tires to spin... It is definitely an advantage in a street setup.
20G?... I liked the 50trim idea but its over kill for high 11s. The Evo 3 16G can be had for under 500.oo and will take a 1G dsm into the 11s fairly easily with a decent tune, FMIC, Exhaust, Pump-Injectors, clutch, cams and a good launch. Launching becomes alot easier with a 2step which can be setup in a stock ecu (if eprom) for a fairly low cost. Even buying this stuff brand new and paying full price, you will still have under 4k in the car.
Any one who even knows a dsmer knows that this stuff will be had much cheaper after low balling the hell out of enough people.
There are many people now days that have forgotten about the "free mods". I dont remember the exact number but I could have sworn that people are getting into the 11's will just these. Yeah its rare but it happens.
Brandon I am in no way trying to say you are wrong or anything. I am just saying that it can be done if you have a good platform to work with.

Well I decided not to get the dsm. It was quick the way the guy had it set up, but the interior was rough and I didn't want to mess with that.
Think I'll stick to the mustangs. Might pick up a 85' Gt with 351w that has run a 12.05 with a 1.77 60' stock suspension. With a little nitrous (200 shot)
and some suspension work it should run in the low 11's maybe even 10's.
Thanks for all the great advice.
I personally get more satisfaction out of outrunning a more powerful car and having everyone know that I just drove the car within an inch of it's life to win
you are right. 11's are achievable on a 16G..but like you said you basicly will need the supporting mods to do it.and 16g's are very streetable turbo's with there quick spool up time. point in being yes you can get 11's with a 16G..but will you. not to be a jerk but probably not unless you can launch a car and know what your doing.just spend $700 or so for a used 50 trim or so and get it over with. i would also recomend atleast some 680 injectors with something to Tune(DSMLINK, or atleast an SAFC) intake..exhaust.."free mods"..FMIC and a nice Intake ( 2G mas Maybe??)....also a walbro 255 fuel pump/ and adjustable FPR...
