    Not So Average Beretta

I'll post some...alot of pics here about my car that i have been working on seriously for about 2 years. ill try and keep it in order from begining to end. well i don't think it will ever end, LOL but you get the picture.

It had the 2.8MPFI in it and of course it was SLOW. so i put a 3400 SFI engine in it from a 2003 Impala. I put in a CAI that i made myself, a Zoom performace clutch kit and yanked the exhaust off when i went to the track. otherwise, stock. IMO

I liked the 3400, but somehow, it "got" slow after a year. LOL you know how that is.

So after my firend ditched his project i decided to give it a try. ill throw a turbo in there. may 2005 i started. Never touching a welder, and knowing nothing about turbos, except they pull air in and give you power. still I know just the basics. but i didn't care, i like trying things.

WARNING UGLY WELDS AND NO PLANNING SKILLS and VERY VERY LONG post

    OHH Syclonoe turbo

    Internal wastegate cool

MMM where can it go...sorry battery your being kicked out!

Had to make my own flanges.. custom crap is kind easier. if you need something just make it yourself.
one exhaust manifold flange and one exhaust "inlet" flange

Ouch...how does a welder work?? Ill put this here and umm, make it connect.(notice the angle the turbo is LOL) A Flange from a 2.8 down pipe.(seals good too) mmm i see a solid mounted turbo...thats a no no.

Now to make the front connect with the rear... I used the stock crossover flex pipe to allow expansion. and easier to install.

This all went really fast, but i kept running out of money. I needed more
    U-bends. LOL

What a hack job!...I love it How hard was the 3.4 to put in? I have a '94 beretta with a 3.1 that i would like to swap over to a 3.4, I'm wondernig if all the harnesses/pcm will work from the 3.1? Didnt GM once upon a time make a 3.1 turbo? I think it was in the grand am but I could be wrong. either way...great idea, i give you credit for even attempting it and best of luck!

By the way...might want to tighten down that nut on your tranny mount lol

    OK next Part

Now i need a Down pipe...mmm that can go like...this but i need another flange.. you can see i had to adjust my turbo...its more "straight"

Leaves me some room for an Intake pipe..

After Fixing my welds and getting alittle better at it, i was happy with the results. I guess i had not choice either.
Now whats next... ohh i need one of those things on the front... an IC. mmm
    Ill modify my own

    YEAH BABY

Fits perfect, but just too much hassle with paying to get it welded. so i ditched that thing and got a better looking and bigger one...planing skills, they suck
Alittle shorter, but thicker. You can't see it very well, but thats how i want it. I don't want too much attention drawn to it.

Going In...up around and out, then in again....

1G BOV...flat black to hide it alittle better and to prevent rusting.

Then i finished the welds and painted it.

I had to make my own acuator braket due to rotating the intake housing....

    Look at the Traffic geesh..

Time to OIL it.. -6 in and -8 out. i had to make my own drain flange but forgot to take pics LOL. as if i need more.

A "T" fitting for my gauge and to the turbo..LOL the gauge doesn't work well though. I guess the pressure dosen't "go in" and hold the pressure enought to give an accurate reading. LOL

I had to cut some body out but hey if it dosen't fit...your not trying hard enough.

extra U-Bends...oh wait i still have to do exhaust...oh well im going to get it running first.

On to the Fueling..... or what was going to be used.. Additional injectors

Yup made my own injector holders. the hell if im paying 65 bucks each online..hell 3 bucks in washers and pipe. hehe

Now everything is done.....My AIC controller doesn't even work... so im not going to use those at all. what a waste of time. but i may just keep those there for other sensors and such.

Finished PICs i drove the car around with 21LBS injectors for about 2 weeks running ultra lean LOL

This is where the intake will end up when im done.

Im still working on the car. i need to finish the exhaust and get my tunning program. Then a new gas tank since its leaking. Batterey pics i don't have on this computer, but its in the trunk.

damn back yard hack jobs. LOL poor people need to go fast too.

I want to run between 6-8 daily and maybe 10 if i get it tuned good. maybe higher but i doubt it.

    OK DONE

You have it easy. you have the 3100, just swap over the engine mounting hardware and drop it in. you may have to swap over other little things like coolant rails and maybe some vaccum hoses or coolant hoses, but overall its the same engine just better flowing intake manifolds and bigger head ports along with a bigger bore. 2000 or newer engines have the improved heads and upper and lower intakemanifolds. also you do not have the mount from hell like i do on my 89. the Trans/engine mount. its just in the way of everything.

the 3.1 turbo came on the grand prix.

LOL but hey, when you see some of these prices online, that can be made by anyone and their mom, you gets da building...

i mean yeah, it may look nice and shiny, but you don't see that when your flying down the track.....or blowing up. Just as long as it works. the only thing i had to make perfect was the I.D. i machined on a lathe.

now im just going to use the turbo grand prix code in my chip and modify that. so maybe i can use those holes later for somthing else, when this setup becomes "slower"..

I am real curious to see what your able to pull off at the track.

well i know its not accurate, but i beat a couple cars with this bad setup. From a roll of course an STI. in 2nd i pulled form him, in 3rd i was already a good car in front, but then i over reved and he caught up, buthe never did pass me. LOL i beat 2 SRT-4s from a stop(killed them really bad, prolly stock or close to it about 3 or 4 car lengths easy) I beat that black with purple letters on the hood SR20 swaped 240sx. ummm i can't remember anything else that may be fast.... but i could only shift at 4500-5000 due to no power up top. hoping low 13s high 12 on street tires with6psi. 10psi should be able to hit 12s granted everything works well, which usually never happens with me

How much have you spent totally on this project?

This project looks unique cause I never saw or heard of a turboed Berreta with a engine swap.

I can see you hitting 13's on street tires but 12's? Your going to have to get some slicks to achieve that.

    Good luck.

With everything that im using ...alittle more than 1500, but since i wasted my time with 2 ICs that ended up not working with my plans, and AIC controller....so around or just under 2000 and counting...i still need to do my exhaust.

13s or high 12s...with street tires is more of a goal. low 13s for sure is possible. a conv. cavy with a stock 3400 and 6psi hit 13.1 with street tires. so 12s shouldn't be too hard with 10psi.....but yes traction will be an issue..a big one. but either way its all in the tunning/driver

What are your EGT's and A/F's at? The charge pipe is kinda close to exhaust side of the turbo but I guess there not much you could do (beside come from the other side and do a u-bend into the t.b.)

It ran 14's at the track before the turbo...right (mid 14's IIRC).

  17. #17
oh god...with no tunning the A/F was HIGH!!! at 5 grand I hit 19.1 otherwise i was in the 13-14 range @ only 6-8psi maybe. i can't hold any less than that due to my restricted wastegate, but thats ok. heat wise i have header wrap, but i may make some heat shields so the intake charge doesn't get as hot. and i need a shield for the turbo and the wiring harness just below it. I kinda just threw things together to get it to work. when its working good, i may spend some money to bring the apperence up.
I still do not know if i should go with 2.5 exhaust or 3". i think 3" will be over kill, but i dunno. my HP should be around 230 to the wheels with 6psi or so, and with 10psi maybe 280 or 300ish. TQ will be well over 300...

right now my pipes are...... crossover 2". down pipe 2 1/4 under car is nothing as of now. Intake to IC is 2". IC to TB is 2 1/4 then 2 1/2 to the TB

i have no fuel upgrades as of now.. but ill get that done before i drive it anymore...

with the CAI , clutch, and exhaust off(just my down pipe on) i ran 14.313@ 95.37mph...otherwise 100% stock engine with clutch i ran a 14.5@93mph full stock exhaust.

Thanks for all the compliments guys.

-6AN oil feed line for the turbo is too big. You should never use anything bigger than -4AN for an oil feed line. I give you props for doing something not everybody else is doing. Good luck with your project.
