2012 Camaro.... ZL1. The supercar nameplate returns!
I know alot of people on this board are not fans of the 5th gen camaro, and oh well if your not.
But the "official" public release of the new "performance Camaro" took place today so i though id Share.
While im not sure what this car will turn out to be like, its rumored to be competitive in everything it does, as close to the vette as it ever has been.
Its a full year away yet, and it will have the caddy CTS-V's 556 hp LSA engine. Which those tanks run 10's with less than a grand stuck into them, this "should" be even better.
I love the rest of the car...but the interior is still a little too retro for my taste. It'll likely use better material but the the overall form of the interior remains the same.
Not that if I was a GM guy I'd like it keep me out of one...especially one with that kind of power, lol.

Looks badass. I was just thinking the other day they should put the CTS-V motor in a Camaro! What is the sticker $$??

GM put that engine in a damn station wagon! If any car in the GM line up could use that engine, it is the Camaro!
That is one bad ass grocery getter!

Awesome, this just made my week. I've been waiting for this since the rumors of the Z28 started. Wonder why they decided to go with the ZL1 name instead of the traditional Z28 ? Either way I signed up for updates, and I will be calling the Holz to see when they are starting a waiting list to order.

The Magnetic Ride is going to be the difference maker.

What differences will the Z28 model have from the ZL1?

This replaces the Z28 naming convention. The Z was always the "entry level" or sleeper type of Camaro anyway, the ZL1 has been regarded as the king of Camaro's since 69 with its all aluminum 427. So much like the ZR1 being the pinnacle of Corvette performance in the early 90's and again now, this car and naming convention fall right in line with that idea.
I suspect these cars will be about 50K. No worse than a GT500 price wise and a little less than what you would pay for a 2LT vette coupe.

So you think theres any chance of a Z28 that has a the go fast of a ZL1 with out some of the high end stuff to keep the price down. Kind of like a base model with the LSA in it? Would be awesome to have something like that in the $35-40k range.

Very cool I know there have been talks of putting the LSA into the camaro for a while now, but sounds like it is official that it will come to fruition. :)
P.S. I fricken LOVE that CTS-V wagon. Probably the coolest daily driver ever, I would rock the shit out of one of those if it wasn't outside of the budget.

No the Z28 was going to be this car. The SS is really what you are describing short the LSA mill. A 2SS level car is already in that price range!
This shit sounds expensive, and it is, but the rest of the competitors are right there in the same pricing structure too!

Any one want to buy a 87 Iroc? It will most likely be going up for sale this summer.

Until you can see out of the back of these things, the "interior" isn't fixed.
The exterior I'm gonna have to wait til I see it next week, looks more aggressive than the regular one though. Definitely Excited for the motor though.
And the ZL1 naming is kind of weird because weren't the originals COPO cars that were really low production, vs this, relatively large production?

Well they cut the top off to help the visibility now! The verts with the top down look a ton better than the coupes.
Joe i am having throughts too, no clue how i will swing the price tag though!

Awesome.... finally some real competition for the GT500, I mean, these YouTube videos of 10 SS Vs. 10 GT500 are ridiculous. This should raise the bar, :thumbsup. SWEET!!
That chopped Camaro looks like crap!!! Terrible...

I see it's at the chicago autoshow. I might head down on Saturday for something to do. Here's a little write up on it of some of the features it's suppose to come with.

Its alright.:rolf
Just dishing out the shit talkin'. I got plenty of it when i bought my car. I drove a Camaro before i bought my Challenger. Even though its not as fast and is heavier, it fits my 6'5 275lb fat ass better than the Camaro did, plus my Dealer and Chrysler employee discount didnt hurt either.:D

Z28 still coming, probably gonna try to go against the boss.
This is what I would do,
SS's 6.2's. (forgot the damn RPOż)
Z28's LS7
ZL1, LSA
This makes me want to do a motor swap!

as someone who is in the market for the new CTS-V sedan (daily driver) within the next 12-16 months, I am super excited for the ZL-1. There will be even more performance goodies available and the prices will be coming down even more I'm sure with the additional production volume for common LSA aftermarket items. I hope they bring out a convertible ZL-1 (wishful thinking I know) because that will likely be in the stall next to my GN and (hopefully) CTS-V. GM is really bringin' the heat, the next few years are going to be very exciting for GM performance.

Sharp car - Saw it at the Chicago Auto Show. I think it was also the pace car at Daytona as well.
The weight of this car is the issue... Gas mileage will be bad, as it is in CTS-V's. But, who buys this car for the gas mileage... :)
