What exactly happened there? Doesnt looking like it melted anything or knocked, valve stem just broke pretty much?
Yea it is really weird... I would hate to go on without really knowing what caused that.
I really doubt it was the tune. The log looked great, nice rich A/F, reasonable timing, good temps, no loss of sync. Nothing out of the ordinary. Plus when we pulled all of the other plugs everything looked great there too, not a hint of detonation.
It almost seems like the intake valve stuck or floated for a second to me. I can't think of any other reason why it would just come apart like that?!
Oh as an aside. Big thanks to Dave B. and someone else (Jim feel free to chime in here), that let me take a look at their timing maps for similar SB2 headed cars. It was a GREAT starting point. I made a few small changes offline to the maps and we never really had a need to touch them much. We only had to make some small changes and were able to concentrate our time almost exclusively on fuel. Huge time saver!
At least it has been 2 steps forward and 1 step back with the car so far... and it is most definitely progressing. I CAN'T WAIT to see this thing back together and tearing it up on the road and track. It should be down right silly. :headbang
That is Mr Dave mother fucken Bowman (fastest man on 275'S) and Dustin from PTC converters that helped a ton. After it's fixed Ice cream stands only :banana1: Only problem they are like 10 miles away. Dam better get AAA
That is pretty a cool effort you guys! At least Jim is just saying "fuck it, lets get'er back together" this time!!! haha I can only think of a flaw in the stem, a spring broke or some sorta weird fluke that as mentioned it just hung open a split sec too long and caught the slug.
so far the pistons are on me. and the rod, the rest is on him fixing my head
Hollow valve stem? Hmmmm......
Well here is the update. Block needs bored to 4.170 to clean up. My guy Tommy at NVR willl get me done by friday. Pistons will be here by thurs day. Heads are fixed and rod and pin are comming it will be tight but I think we can make The BCM car show and Dyno days. We WILL make 1700 plus if we can get it done.:headbang
