Buick 455's aren't visually impressive...but great engines, very light for their displacement.

Another neat engine to look at, buick nailheads aren't impressive by themselves. But 4 of them?

The older gen 1 chrysler hemi...the whale motor. Probably one of the most beautiful engine ever to grace an engine bay, especially b/w the frame rails of a hot rod. Available with up to 390hp, there was nothing of the late 50's that even approached the 331, 354, and 392's.

Perhaps the neatest and most different looking engine of all...mopar's sonoramic intakes were available on B block 361 and 383's, and RB 413's. From 310hp for the lowly 361, to 375hp for the 413, it gave a maximum 450ft-lbs of torque at only 2800rpm. Not shabby for late 50's, early 60's power.
I took this picture at SEMA in 06.
