Cold Weather Starting Problem.

Heres what happens.. When its 10*F or colder. My truck does not always want to start/idle correct.

Start it up. idle goes to about 400-600rpms. And sounds like wants to die. and does die sometimes...

I can give it gas for couple seconds(or 30secs depending if cold like is now -30with wind) then, It could catch and the rpms would jump like normal to 1.5-2k rpms when you normal start a car and come back down to 1000(normal idle)


Not sure whats wrong

Rail has pressue
All new oil
New battery back in OCT
New Spark plugs and wires back in OCT


No codes are showing up... Shouldn't have this much problem.

Truck is 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0l flux fuel 4x4

What weight of oil are you using?

Sounds like the oil is just thick from the cold and it takes it a little while to get the oil warmed up and moving around decently.

does your truck come with a block heater? my f150 has one and it works great on cold days like today. dont know if that would help your situation or not.

Sounds like an IAC motor issue. Probably just lazy/slow moving in this cold, can ya blame it ?

my guess also would be the IAC

Both of my rangers started first time. The 89 just cranked a little longer that is all.

I would have to agree, after talking to a few techs here at work, that is where they would start looking, the IAC or the oil

we have a '04 ranger with the 2.5 at work and it is slow to start then give it a little gas and the tach will hit 3k it has a nasty intake leak we found.

Have recommended oil in it. 5w30.

Ill check for intake leak and IAC tomor.

probably a good throttle body cleaning will also go along with the iac
