Thanks Dr. Buick aka Jim for all the help today! Scanned my truck, obtained an accurate diagnsosis, then did the research on the interweb and printed off an 8 page description with detailed parts, and step by step instructions!
Stopped by EVS on the way home, picked up the parts for $30, went home and fixed the truck in about 1 hour!
Probably saved me about $150 at least!
Thanks again--I really appreciate it!
no problem
Dealers overcharge. That's why I just work for one, haha.
so what was the issue?
Engine light came on. Code was for a malfunctioning EVAP CVS filter. TSB recomends replacing the conduit, install new CVS (canister vent solenoid) Valve and filter.
Apparently the valve and filter are one piece. I had to lower the spare tire to get access to the filter. 2 hoses and 1 electrical connection were all that needed to be disconnected and then reconnected. Went pretty smoothly accept one of the hoses is a rigid, almost pvc grade hose that broke. I had to heat the end with a hairdryer to get the hose pliable and reconnected it.
Since I do not have a scanner, I was not sure how I was going to reset the computer to eliminate the code. I disconnected the battery for 2 mins and VOILA! All fixed!
This was done on my 2007 GMC Yukon Denali XL, BTW.
That formed hose on the vent valve can simply be cut with a hose cutter, and then you install a piece of 5/8" heater hose between your new valve and existing hose with a couple of hose clamps.
What code did you have? P0446 p0449 or p0455?
