View Full Version : slicks and wheel spacers

I have some rims and slicks that I want to run on the back of my Torino. It is a 3500lb car, last year at the track it ran low 13's should be a bit faster this year. If I run 1/2" wheel spacers to clear the slicks will i pass tech inspection? I have 3" long Strange studs, Strange axles.

thats a pretty grey area.
most will tell you not to do it,but i can say i have seen people do it.not saying its a good idea,especially on something that is going to leave hard.

Well after some trial and error I will need 3/8" spacers. I am cutting them tonight at work on a laser out of 3/8" plate. They are a snug fit on the lug nuts. What if I weld them to the rims? Is that safer? My only other option is to cut my rims apart and change the backspacing, weld them back together. They are steel aftermarket chevy ralleye syle rims. They are new, so there is no rust or corrosion on the rims. What do you think is my best option? And most importantly will it be safe and pass tech inspection?

changing the backspace on the wheels is going to be the strongest IMO.

or at bare minimal use hubcentric spacers.

The spacers I cut are a snug fit on the hub and on the lugs. When they are installed, I cant move them.

Crawlin's were snug and fit good. And we still ended up carrying the wheel and slick off the track while towing it backwards with a jack.

How thick of a spacer were you using?
sounds like I am cutting and rewelding the rims.

I don't remember, I think you will be much better off with the proper wheel.
